Sometimes Hollywood comes to Bollywood, like when Julia Roberts traveled to India to shoot her new movie "Eat, Pray, Love." And sometimes it’s Bollywood that brings Hollywood to the homeland for some good old movie making!
That’s the case for Boman Irani, who in his next movie is set to play a character not too different from Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner. The comedy "Fruit and Nut" tells the story of Harry Holkar, an aging Maharaja of Mumbai who lives in a mansion with young, sexy ladies.
Sounds familiar? Well, here’s what Boman had to say about the character that has more in common with Hugh Hefner than his initials!
"There are different shades to the character but it is among the funniest characters I have ever played. It's weirdly funny. We are aware that Mumbai never had a Maharaja yet there is a meaning to my character of Maharaja Harry Holkar."
And the "Dostana" actor is no stranger to diverse and challenging roles. Boman played a peculiar motel owner in "Darna Mana Hai," a severe Dr. Asthana in "Munnabhai M.B.B.S," and a crazy Parsi in "Being Cyrus."
So will he manage to pull off this role as well? Well, we just gonna have to wait until the movie drops! In the meantime, check out our exclusive interview with Boman Irani at the Engendered Festival in held in New York City a few weeks back. Boman was in town to promote his movie "Dostana," in which he plays an eccentric gay magazine editor, another quirky role on his resume!
